Cow Face Pose

Gomukha Asana
Gomukha is a Sanskrit term which means the face of a cow. This asana comes under the sitting postures. In the final posture of this asana body looks like a cow face. It’s a relaxing posture as it alleviates tiredness, tension and anxiety. It relives back ache, sciatica, rheumatism. It gives flexibility to shoulder and neck muscles. And improves the functioning of respiratory system.
Techniques:
- Sit on the floor with both feet stretched out in front
- Bend the left leg and place the foot beside the right buttock
- Place the right leg on top of the bent left leg
- Make sure the right ankle is placed beside the left buttock
- Keep the knees one on top of the other
- Let both buttocks rest on the floor evenly
- Stretch the left arm out by the side and wrap it behind the back
- The back of the palm should rest in the middle of the shoulder blades
- Now take the right arm up, bend it from the elbow and take it behind the head
- The palm should touch the back of the head
- Keep the right elbow vertical, pointing towards the ceiling
- Make sure the head, neck and spine are erect
- Rest in the posture with eyes closed
Contra-indications:
- Sciatica
- Hernia
- Surgery or injury in lower abdominal region
- Slipped disc
