Celibate’s Pose

Brahmacharya Asana

In English, brahmacharya means celibacy. As the name suggests, regular practice of this asana redirects sexual energy towards spiritual energy. This is one of the advanced spiritual practices done by a spirituality seeker or a yoga aspirant.

Techniques:

  • Sit straight with the legs stretched in front of the body
  • Place your palms on the floor beside the buttocks with fingers pointing forward
  • Keep head, neck and spine straight in one line
  • Breathe in and push against the floor with both palms
  • Keeping the knees straight, lift the feet, legs and buttocks off the floor
  • Try to hold the lift using the strength of abdominal muscles
  • Balance the whole body on two palms
  • With exhalation slowly bring the feet, legs and buttocks back on the floor
  • Relax in a sitting position, then repeat for the required number of rounds

Contraindications:

  • Weak arms, shoulders and abdominal muscles
  • Hernia
  • Slipped Disc
  • Surgery
  • Pregnancy

  • Strengthens abdominal muscles
  • Conserves sexual energy for spiritual purposes
  • Helpful in relieving conditions of prolapse
