Wheel Pose

Chakrasana
Sanskrit term ‘chakra’ means wheel; this asana is so named because the final position resembles a wheel. One of the popular backward stretches, this asana belongs to the advanced group of practices. Although it is considered a backward stretch only but technically it also belongs to inverted group of asanas. So practice of this pose needs thorough practice and expert guidance.
Techniques:
- Lie down flat on the floor in supine pose
- Keep your feet together and arms by sides of the body
- Bend both knees bringing heels close to the buttocks on the mat
- Bend the elbows and place the palms below shoulders with finger pointing towards the feet
- Inhale and lift the upper body and buttocks up in the air
- In the final position elbows and knees are kept as straight as possible
- Lower the body on the floor as you exhale
- Bring down the buttocks, back and head on the floor
- This is one round; practice 3-5 rounds
Contraindications:
- Hernia
- High Blood Pressure
- Weak arms and shoulders
