This position requires a fair amount of preparation before given a try. Strength in ankle and knee joints is essential. Here the correct alignment and form of posture is of utmost importance. This position is performed at fourth and ninth places in the twelve pose sequence of Surya Namaskara. Hence, expert supervision is recommended.
Techniques:
- Stand with feet together and arms by sides of the body
- Take a long stride backward with right leg
- Separate both feet to a comfortable distance
- Place the palms by the sides of the left foot
- Bend the left knee and place the right knee on the floor to maintain balance
- Without hunching the shoulders, keep the elbows as straight as possible
- Balance the body on two palms, left foot, right knee and toes of the right foot
- Raise the chin up and gaze at the eyebrow center
- Keep awareness on the stretch, balance and breath
Contraindications:
- Hernia
- High blood pressure
- Slipped disc
