Vigyanmaya Kosha

PrintPrint

The vigyanmaya kosha is also known as the sheath of intelligence, or the conscious mind.

When ignorance extends further this sheath is formed.

The buddhi (intellect) together with the organs of perception - the five sensory organs, as well as manas (awareness) all constitute the vigyanmaya kosha.

All of the work that we do is called vigyana. Our inner urges are nothing but vigyana. Brahmans pure consciousness is reflected in this kosha. All natural laws work because of vigyana.

Vigyana is the skill and intelligence that is behind all works of humans and nature; through it comes intuition. This is the sheath where the complex concepts of karma and samskara interact within human beings.

Vigyanmaya kosha, manomaya kosha and pranamaya kosha together form the subtle body of Jivatma.

This sheath accompanies the jiva (individual soul) during transmigration i.e. after death. These sheaths are invisible.
