Garlic Oil, For a Healthy Heart!

Researchers at the Emory University in Atlanta have shown that a compound named diallyl trisulfide, present in garlic oil might be beneficial in improving cardiac function in patients who undergo a heart attack. Even though the research is still in its preliminary stages, and the compound has been tested just in mice, it might be a breakthrough discovery, which will revolutionize the management of heart attacks and heart surgery in the years to come.

The compound, which is a purified form of hydrogen sulfide, works by the same mechanism as this gas, reducing inflammation, lowering blood pressure, slowing down cell death, and facilitating oxygen supply to the heart muscle. However, the use of hydrogen sulfide is impractical because of its instability, making diallyl sulfide a suitable alternative. Even though the study emphasizes on the use of garlic oil for cardiovascular health, the consumption of raw garlic also offers similar benefits by inhibiting the growth of cancerous tumors.
