The word "anatomy" has been derived from the Greek word anatomia, where "ana" means "separate" and "temnein" means "to cut up". It is basically the scientific study of the shape and structure of the organisms and their parts.
Anatomy is a general term which includes the following:
- Human Anatomy: Study of the structure and configuration of the adult human body
- Zootomy: It is the study that deals with the animal anatomy
- Phytotomy: It is all about the plant anatomy, i.e. the study of the internal structure of the plant
The following are the sub-divisions of anatomy:
- Macroscopic Anatomy
- Microscopic Anatomy
Pathophysiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the disturbances of the functions of the body caused by disease or prodromal symptoms.
For example, pathophysiology helps to explain how a infectious disease is caused by a toxin released by a bacterium, and what how does toxin cause harm to the body, due to sepsis or some other reaction. Another example is the study of the chemical changes that take place in body tissues due to inflammation.
In a nutshell, when something disrupts normal physiological processes, then it enters the realm of pathophysiology.
Ayurveda says vitiation of doshas is the root cause of a disease. Know more about your health through FREE Dosha Analysis.
