Apana vayu is located in the anus region and works against prana vayu.

By controlling the lumbar portion of the autonomic nervous system of the body, it governs the excretory system and its related vital organs such as the kidneys, bladder, genitals, colon and rectum.

All bodily excretions are a function of apana vayu.

Apana vayu maintains the locomotor activities of the body such as ejaculation of semen, menstruation, and excretion. Constipation, piles, premature ejaculation and menstrual disorders are a few examples of apana vayu disturbance.

The apana vayu can be manipulated and controlled by a yogic diet and by practicing kriyas, asanas, bandhas, mudras and pranayama.
