Manomaya Kosha

PrintPrint

The manomaya kosha is also known as the perceptual body, which constitutes the mind and the organs of perception.

This sheath influences prana and directs our thinking. Feelings such as pleasure and pain develop from this kosha.

When prana (breath, life force) and anna (food) are operating, there is no manas (awareness), and we cannot think or feel. Thoughts which first originate in this sheath can manifest themselves as disease in the body.. In non-living things like mountains, manas or awareness is present; however, it is at a very subtle level. All of the diseases involving the manomaya kosha should be treated with yogangas as prescribed by ashtanga yoga.
