Amebiasis refers to a contagious intestinal illness which is transmitted by the consumption of drinks or food contaminated by Entamoeba histolytica parasite. A single-celled organism called amoeba is responsible for this problem.
This parasite makes burrows in the intestinal walls, which causes ulcers and abscesses. From these places, they get into the intestinal veins and are then carried to the liver. A child suffering from this illness can get abdominal pain which might increase gradually. Frequent bowel movements, nausea, loss of appetite, bloody stool and cramps are also observed in patients.
