Alzheimer is a brain disorder that involves loss of memory. Alois Alzheimer, a German physician, first coined this word in 1906 to describe a special kind of brain disorder. It leads to behavioral and thinking problems, including short-term memory. This is a form of dementia, which is a common term used to describe loss of memory and other problems related to old age. It is considered to be a fatal disease and leads to the destruction of brain cells.

Sign Symptoms



  • Loss of memory.
  • Frantic behavior and other behavioral problems.
  • Deterioration in thinking abilities.
  • Alzheimer patients often face problems while communicating their views and feelings with one another. They fail to share their feelings and emotions with others and suffer from a peculiar anxiety.
  • They find it hard to do common day-to-day tasks. Eating, washing, dressing and other such work, becomes tiresome tasks for them. The situation worsens with time.

Causes



  • Mainly old people are detected with Alzheimer. Doctors have reported that this diseases progresses with age. It is mainly found in people who are in their last phase of life.
  • According to the reports of some doctors, Alzheimer is a genetic disorder.
  • Sometime, young people also suffer from this disease if they have faced any traumatic situation.
  • Researchers are trying to find the exact cause of this disorder. But they have not yet been able to detect the root cause of the disease. So, the exact reason behind this fatal disease remains unknown.

  • Walking is a good habit. A reliable person can accompany an Alzheimer patient while walking. It improves his or her (Alzheimer patient’s) communicational skills.
  • Calming and soothing music may reduce restlessness associated with such patients. This also helps in improving behavior.
  • Bright light therapy helps in controlling wandering problems and insomnia, or sleeplessness. Pet dogs and other animals can help them in appropriating social behaviors.
